We see as Technology has become such an inconvincible part of our life that we can hardly imagine doing things without the use of any kind of technology. Similarly, in my previous blog, we read about technology playing a key role in legislation and women empowerment here we are going to read about it playing a significant role in Law enforcement and the Police of the country. By using technology and the skills of police we can ensure speedy and effective justice by analyzing its significant importance, certain issues & challenges involved, and the way forward with effective measures.

Technologies used in this field are:-

  1. Using Drones & CCTV Cameras to monitor the flow of people.

  2. Body-worn cameras are used by police to provide policing mechanisms in the country.

  3. To Improve Traffic police efficiency, police use Automatic plate readers to record who has violated the rules readily.

  4. Biometrics & Fingerprint scanner as well as usage of Brain Fingerprinting in Investigations.

  5. Also, police use mobile interceptions to record and intercept calls for National security.

  6. Usage of Predictive analytics software to examine the changing behavioral patterns.

The significance of Technology in Law Enforcement would be:-

  1. Technology helps improve the public interface by readily accessing FIR downloads anywhere.

  2. Artificial Intelligence helps in crime prevention as it helps to detect the hotspots, and major crime active in that region.

  3. Mainly, effective in crime detection as technology helps to quickly detect the victim by fingerprints, bio-metric scans, facial recognition, etc.

  4. Awareness Generation- By preventing cyber crimes, usage of Big-data to find out providing cyber security.

  5. Improving Internal Efficiency- By using technology to register, check the progress of each case, calculate the time taken to solve the case, etc.

  6. Real-time Integration- By providing speedy trials & hence quick justice by breaking the old agenda "Justice Delayed is Justice Denied".

Issues & Challenges:-

  • It leads to a Breach of Privacy

  • Absence of Regulation in the Usage of Technology

  • Expensive to procure & maintain

  • Increases stress on the workforce.

Way Forward:-

  • Addressing other perennial issues for the time being like women's force recruitment, weapons modernization, new skill training camps, etc. I am focusing on adequate infrastructure and capacity building.

  • Building Digital Trust.

  • Regulating Technologies.
